Pilot Project: Ludo-mathematics
This project stimulated the use of games, gadgets and hands-on activities as aids for teaching mathematics in schools. At the same time, an analysis of the efficiency of these tools in the classroom and the dissemination of best approaches and pedagogical practices was achieved by means of an online discussion forum and promotion of a library of mathematical exhibits, games and other hands-on and minds-on instruments.
Target age group 7 to 17 years old
Languages Portuguese and English
Methodology
- Teacher training workshops on the use of interactive exhibits conducted in the Pavilion of Knowledge
- Small projects involving students conducted in schools.
Impact The main focus was on the development of small projects where a curricular topic was approached by teachers and students using the kind of objects and activities usually found in science centres. This project aimed to promote the use of these instruments in the teaching of mathematics.
A specific webpage (http://www.pavconhecimento.pt/projectos/pencil/pt/home/home.html) was developed for this project hosted within the Pavilion of Knowledge website.
Evaluation strategy
- Questionnaires
- Direct observations in schools
- Focus groups
