The media portal of the Siemens Stiftung expanded: teaching materials available also in English
Having acquired a solid reputation among German-speaking teachers, the Siemens Stiftung has now expanded its media portal by adding materials for bilingual and non-German teaching. In addition to more than 1,000 German media files, teachers can now access around 480 English media files on the topics of energy, water and hearing for free download.
The current materials for lesson preparation and lesson structure cover useful and valuable information on the latest technologies as well as recent developments and trends, and convey basic fundamentals of science. The portal includes both single media such as interactive graphics, animations, videos, audio files, and information sheets, as well as thematically grouped media packages.
Just a few clicks away
Both the English and German user interface offer the same convenient features: After completing a simple registration process, teachers can carry out highly targeted searches for appropriate material and download it with just a few clicks. The rights to the materials are licensed for free use in lessons.
Future outlook
Since its launch in May 2009, the German version of the media portal of the Siemens Stiftung has recorded more than 2,600 registrations and over 170,000 downloads. Many teachers are already using the materials on topics as Einstein, energy, hearing, light and water in preparing and teaching their lessons. With the English material, the Siemens Stiftung not only supports teachers abroad in their work, but also supplements bilingual lessons at German schools.
The media portal is updated and expanded on a regular basis. Current planning includes the addition of further English media files as well as materials in Spanish.
