Nikou Stavros: informatics teacher

Stavros Nikou is a secondary level Informatics teacher in Greece. His idea is that the web has changed the traditional classroom environment, though, the computers will never replace effective teachers. Teachers and students have nowadays a tremendous online repository of knowledge (lesson plans, guides, practices, multimedia material and other resources) available at their fingertips.

Also collaboration between educators (and students) has become much easier. He presents us a collection of helpful teacher resources available on the Internet.There are general educational resources, Physics resources and Computer Science resources.

Teacher Resources
It offers free online tools and resources. This site helps teachers to create ready-to-use web lessons, quizzes, rubrics and classroom calendars. There are also tools for student use.

The Educator's Reference Desk  

It builds on over a quarter century of experience providing high-quality resources and services to the education community. The Educator's Reference Desk offers more than. 2,000 lesson plans, 3,000 links to online education information and 200 question archive responses.

Marco Polo

Access lesson plans, student activities, reviewed web sites and other MarcoPolo resources. Educators named MarcoPolo  the "best site to download free lessons and materials" in the first annual reader's survey conducted by Edutopia, the publication of the George Lucas Educational Foundation.


It is a free and open resource designed primarily for faculty and students of higher education. Links to online learning materials are collected here along with annotations such as peer reviews and assignments.

This is a web educational portal from the Greek Ministry of Education & Religious Affairs that includes lesson plans, articles and texts of pedagogical interest, as well as links to educational sites; all this material may be used for pedagogical purposes. The presented lesson plans aim to inspire the educational community and encourage the contribution of lesson plans, the exchange of views and the development of pedagogical thought. Jeff Ertzberger's Emerging Technologies Games and Utilities
The materials in this website are designed to enhance education through the use of technology. There are Powerpoint, Excel, Word games and activities as well as recommended educational sites . Microsoft Innovative Teachers newsletter recognized the site as first "Great Ideas" contest winner in 2006.

 A gateway to resources related to the Free Software and Open Source Technology movement. Visitors to the UNESCO Free Software Portal can browse through pre-established categories or search for specific words. They can add a new link or modify an already existing one.

Physics – Science- Technology

From the American National Council of teachers of Mathematics, it hosts over 90 online activities that help to make maths alive in the classroom or at home. It has also a collection of 526 lessons for preK-12 math educators.


 It is a free knowledge database on the Internet that offers teachers, pupils and students the opportunity to access information on nuclear science of excellent content and in outstanding form. NUPEX is maintained and monitored by experienced nuclear physicists in Europe. It is prepared in accordance with national teaching plans and the needs expressed by teachers.

It  helps teachers and pupils to get more from statistics. It offers free lesson plans, colourful worksheets, real datasheets and other resources for Statistics.
