Get ready for the Xperimania science ambassadors
Would you like to show your students the coolest chemistry and physics tricks and find some new ideas for your science classes? This year Xperimania (www.xperimania.net) sends science ambassadors right into the classroom to demonstrate the fun side of science - and your school can be one of their destinations!
Concentrating on chemistry and physics, Xperimania aims to boost young people’s interest in science, which is a priority for Europe to remain a knowledge-based economy fostering innovation. In the past two years the Xperimania educational activities – hands-on experiments and chats with science experts – have been a huge success involving thousands of secondary school students each year.
This school year Xperimania makes it even easier for the schools to participate, and goes straight to the science classes around Europe: schools can now send their application to an Xperimania science ambassador, who will pay a visit to three selected schools between February - April 2010.
In the schools, the Xperimania ambassadors will conduct a one or two-hour workshop with inspiring and interactive chemistry and physics experiments which get the students’ hands – literally - on science. The ambassadors will also provide easy tips on how to present the experiment results to a general public in the form of a lab report.
“During their visit, our ambassadors will be keen to create unique experiments with students whilst mixing science with fun. We, at Appe, are convinced that students –and teachers - will get the most out of this unique workshop. This is also a great opportunity for schools to gear up for the International Year of Chemistry in 2011”, says Pierre de Kettenis, Executive Director of Appe/Cefic Petrochemistry Industry Sector.
Interested to book your own science ambassador? All you need to do is to go to the Xperimania website and fill in the online application form at www.xperimania.net/ww/en/pub/xperimania/ambassadors.htm by 15 December 2009. All schools, even with less equipment or experience, are warmly invited to participate.
The three selected schools will be announced on the Xperimania website in January 2010. The Xperimania ambassadors will pack their bags and get on the road in February-April 2010.
The teachers can select the topic of the workshop from a list of topics to make it fit better to their curricula. After the workshops the classes will be encouraged to produce a report of their experience, which will be published on the Xperimania website with images, videos or other multimedia material.
