Rebuilding a European environmental website for young people – your opinion is needed!

This July young Europeans and their teachers are invited to give their opinion in rebuilding an EU environmental website for young people. The European Commission’s DG Environment oversees the initiative and has launched a survey to rate proposals for fresh layout, structure, content and features of the existing Environment for Young Europeans (EYE - http://ec.europa.eu/environment/youth/index_en.html) website of DG Environment.

The project to evaluate and revamp the EYE website has been running since February 2008. So far the European Commission has collected the recommendations from over 1,000 students and 100 teachers in 10 countries in Europe. On the basis of the results, a new survey is launched to test how the proposed recommendations are assessed by students and teachers alike.

The questionnaire is accessible online on http://eye.eun.org, through the project blog on http://www.eyeproject2008.blogspot.com and through a variety of sites for young people in the Member States. It takes less than 10 minutes to fill in and basically prompt both students aged 11-16 years old and school teachers to evaluate the proposed updates on the structure, content, interactivity, features and games of the website. The results will be used to build a new EYE site, which corresponds to the needs and expectations of its target audiences - European youths and educators.

Apart from having a say in EYE’s future and taking part in a Europe-wide project, participating students will have the chance to win prizes, such as:

  • A telescope
  • The chance to adopt 1 acre of rainforest
  • Subscriptions to National Geographic magazine in a language of their choice
  • And many other attractive prizes!

All teachers and students aged 11 to 16 years old are welcome to visit the survey and give their input! The survey is open until 8 August 2008.
