Interactive online game: Water Alert!
Water Alert! is an educational online game produced by Tearfund and WaterAid to highlight issues of EU aid for water and sanitation. Through the game young people are engaged in an adventure of strategy and survival.
The facilitation guide attached to the game includes instructions for use of the game as a teaching tool and suggestions for classroom activities relating to water, sanitation and hygiene education with a focus on literacy, mathematics, science and social studies.
The goal of Water Alert! is to ensure that the people in a drought-challenged village, who are facing the threat of a flood, have water that is safe to drink and a clean and healthy school environment. The village is based in a fictional region of Africa.
The player is informed of the pending emergencies and is asked to choose between two thought-provoking and action oriented challenges at the “River” or “School and Pump”. Takeaway sheets, designed to be posted in your classroom or used in community outreach activities, highlight information on basic skills, practices and procedures related to: river testing; preparing oral rehydration solution; handwashing, hygiene and health; and preparing contaminated water for safe drinking.
