SkyWatch 2006 Astronomy contest

The SkyWatch 2006 Astronomy contest was opened on Monday 20 March. SkyWatch Astronomy contest is an initiative that began in 2005 in the framework of the SkyWatch project with the support of the European Commission (European Science Week).

This year contest is co-organized within the framework of the DSpace project, a project under the e-Ten program of the European Commission and the PENCIL project with the support of the European Distance E-Learning Network - EDEN and European Schoolnet - EUN.
 
Teachers and students are invited to design lesson plans based on the use of unique astronomical archives that will be available from the DSpace Library and implement them in their classroom. Teachers will have to prepare a report and send it to the organizing committee of the SkyWatch contest. The important dates of the contest are:
• Deadline of submissions (first phase): 28 April 2006
• Announcement of the 30 best projects: 1-7 May 2006
• Deadline of final submissions (second phase, 30 best projects only): 26 May 2006
• Announcement of the 10 best projects: 2 June 2006

The 10 best projects will be invited to be presented to the Science Teachers Conference at CERN on 15 to 18 of June 2006, organized in the framework of the PENCIL project. Travel costs and accommodation for the winners will be covered by the organizing committee.

Sample scenarios are already uploaded on the portal, where also teachers can perform their observations through the DSpace network of robotic telescopes.
