Encouraging girls to study science: Sci-Tech Girls Day

The Women’s Forum, with the support of European Schoolnet, will host the Sci-Tech Girls Day on 15 October 2008 in Deauville, France. During the event a group of 100 young girls around Europe will meet leading science and technology experts and inspiring role models to discover women’s opportunities in science.

The project was created in 2007 during the third edition of the Women's Forum for the Economy and Society along with the Women's Forum, L'Oréal Fondation d'Entreprise, Orange and in partnership with Cisco, Ecole Normale Supérieure, Suez, Thales, Total and the city of Deauville.

The Sci-Tech Girls Day aims to support and encourage young women to enter the world of science and technology by:

  • Identifying cultural and social barriers;
  • Demonstrating the quality of careers available following science and engineering studies;
  • Inspiring girls via testimonies from women with exceptional career paths.

For further information, see The Deauville Statement, a document summing up the partners' commitment to change the status quo, which was adopted at the end of the first Sci-Tech Girls Day in 2007.
