Celebrate Data Protection Day by making your own video!

Young Europeans between the ages of 15 and 19 years are invited to take part in the “Surf the internet – think Privacy” competition which was launched this week at www.dataprotectionday.eu. The challenge is to create a 30 to 90 second video to illustrate the theme of data privacy and data protection. As entries start coming in, you can visit the online competition gallery to rate the uploaded entries. The most popular videos will then be judged by a panel of experts.

In the lead up to Data Protection Day on 28th January 2009, European Schoolnet has launched the competition in partnership with Microsoft to better understand how young people feel about data protection online, especially when they join web communities. The competition will run until 15th January 2009, when online voting will also finish.

A special section of the competition invites schools and youth clubs in different countries to team up to produce a joint entry “tandem video”. Winners in both the individual and “tandem” sections of the competition will win a two day trip to Brussels to take part in the Data Protection Day event on 28th January, plus Xboxes. At this event the runners up will be awarded cash prizes for their school or youth club, winning videos will be featured and outright winners will have the opportunity to meet with eminent jury members.

Learn more about the competition by visiting the website at www.dataprotectionday.eu which will be open for submissions from now until 15th January 2009.
