"Goodbye from OPAL" art & science exhibition
An art installation by Raffael Rheinsberg is on show in Berlin, Germany at the Max-Delbrück Centre for Molecular Medicine (Max- Delbrück-Centrum für Molekulare Medizin - MDC) until September 20 2005. The artist has recycled parts of an electron positron collider to make this installation. It celebrates the "retirement" of the detector.
OPAL, the big detector for elementary particle research from CERN in Geneva, Switzerland was removed from the Large Electron Positron Collider (LEP) in 2000. The artist has put the 320 lead glass detector elements in regular rows. Most amazing: visitors can take their part of OPAL for € 1500 each.
