2007 World Conference on Science & Technology Education
The 2007 World Conference on Science and Technology Education hosted by the International Council of Associations for Science Education (ICASE) and the Australian Science Teachers Association (ASTA) will take place in Perth, Western Australia, from 8 to 12 July 2007. Designed for science teachers and educators, this event will address world health issues, science for life and citizenship, sustainable development and 'The Way Forward' (educational directions and priorities established by ICASE).
The 5-day conference is part of the UNESCO World Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2015). Professor Barry Marshall and Dr Robin Warren, two Australian Nobel Laureates, are the conference Patrons of this edition. Lectures will also be given by key international speakers such as Professor Peter Doherty, Nobel Laureate 1996 at University of Melbourne; Professor Barnabas Otaala, Professor Emeritus, Namibia University specialising in HIV/AIDS and Early Childhood development ; and Professor Howard Gardner, Professor of Cognition and Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Harvard University.
Themes lectures, workshops and excursions to education centres, science or technology centres and features of scientific interest will be organised each day. Different themes will be addressed, including science education research, primary science, energy efficient systems, AIDS, nanotechnology, curriculum innovation, green chemistry, climate change or astronomical science.
Teachers and educators will be invited to follow sessions on teaching and learning, classroom strategies and activities, laboratory investigations, policy exploration, curriculum sharing and discussion, tools for use in science and technology classrooms, and unique networking opportunities that may really affect the educational opportunities for all countries, states or schools.
Registrations will open on December 2006. A special rate is offered for primary school teachers wishing to attend the 2,5 day Primary Program from Sunday 8 July to Tuesday 10 July.
