The Mechanical Bang
Experimentarium’s school competition 2005 “The Mechanical Bang” has chosen, as a tribute to the World Year of Physics,
to put focus on mechanics and mechanical energy.
Experimentarium invites the coming 3rd and 4th grades (9-10 years old in 2005/2006) to let their imagination go and get playing, when we build Denmark’s biggest fantasy machine only driven by mechanical energy from mousetraps. To participate in this year’s school competition a class must plan and build a mechanical experiment. The experiment must begin and end with a mousetrap slamming. What happens between the mousetraps is up to each class’s imagination. The best mechanical experiments will be exhibited at Experimentarium. They will be joined together to become a large, combined fantasy machine, where the last mousetrap from each experiment sets the next experiment going. If everything goes as planned, the classroom’s mechanical experiment will become part of Denmark’s biggest fantasy machine.
In November it is planned to set all the inventions up and make one giant machine - where each invention sets the next one off - i.e. the last mousetrap sets the next one going. This is inspired by a Danish person called Storm P. who made 'crazy' drawings of inventions.
