Experimental presentations during GIFT

This workshop offers teachers of Elementary to High Schools an opportunity to upgrade their knowledge in geophysical themes and to shorten the time between discovery and text books.
The workshop program combines scientific presentations on current research by leading scientists participating to the EGU General Assembly, with hands-on activities presented by science educators that can be used by the teachers in their classrooms. Also, teachers are encouraged to give short presentations of special activities they have developed themselves.

The theme of the GIFT-2006 worksshop is "The polar regions", which will be examined on different aspects. For example: ice cores, life in polar regions, the ozone hole, past and present climate, exploration and discovery of the polar regions.

Participating teachers will also have an opportunity to attend the general assembly of the EGU, listen to scientific talks, view poster sessions and technical exhibitions.

Poster Sessions

Teachers participating in the GIFT workshop can also benefit from other presentations during the conference, for example the numerous poster presentation with newest results from solar science, atmospheric science, climate sience, geoscience, oceanography, etc.
Please inform yourself on the website of the EGU Assembly.

Registration of GIFT-2006 and the General Assembly is free for the selected teachers and travel/living grants are available. Accepentence of the grants and/or free registration implies for the teacher the obligation to attend the entire workshop and to provide an immediate feedback of its effectiveness by filling the evaluation form. In addition, teachers will be asked to provide a report 6 months after the workshop on whether and how they have used the new concepts learned at the GIFT workshop in their classrooms.

We are awaiting your application and would appreciate to welcome you in Vienna.
